If you suffer from fatigue, anxiety, depression or can’t get yourself to concentrate on anything then maybe you might want to incorporate some superfoods into your daily diet. Superfoods are foods that have super properties that are very beneficial to the body. For example, they may have high levels of antioxidants or they may have a high phytonutrient content (From the greek work “phyto” meaning plant and “nutrient”). Basically these foods are very nourishing and have a high concentration of essential nutrients beneficial to our health.
These are just some of the many superfoods out there:
-Wild Omega-3 rich fish, blue berries and pomegranates, olive oil, nuts, (walnuts, almonds, pine nuts, macadamia),Whole grains ( oats, whole wheat, barley), brown rice, red grapes, garlic and onion, green tea, broccoli, kale, cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, yogurt and dark chocolate
To get the benefits of chlorophyll I decided to use spinach in my juice this morning. Chlorophyll is a natural internal deodorizer for the body, it is very alkaline and serves as an antioxidant. It prevents and treats most cancers. The chlorophyll pigment is very close to our blood pigment thus the nickname “green blood”.
The combination of spinach, orange, kiwi and cucumber turned out perfect. You can also use apples for extra sweetness. The way to do it is to juice all the fruits and veg in the juicer and then pour into the blender and add the spinach, blend till greeeeeen !
I have just received my first bottle of cosmetic Argan oil. All the way from Morocco, this oil comes from the Argan tree, one of the rarest trees in the world only to be found in the south west part of Morocco. The Argan tree can live up to 200 years. Moroccan women make a living out of collecting the Argan nuts and grounding them into an Argan paste and extracting the oil, this process by hand can take up to 10-12 hours per litre. Argan oil is one of Moroccos beauty secrets and has been used for centuries to protect and nourish the skin. In the west it has been gaining popularity as the “miracle ingredient” for the beauty industries, It has extremely high levels of Vitamin E which helps stop free radical damage. It also contains 80% fatty acids which makes it great for healing many skin aliments like acne, psoriasis, eczema and unwanted scars have all been improved by the oil’s topical application. This unique oil is also perfect as an anti- wrinkle ointment.
Culinary Argan oil on the other hand is a lot different to cosmetic Argan oil. (Please be careful and make sure you read the label properly as they are both processed in different ways and are not interchangeable). Argan oil is not used for cooking but more for garnishing as it has that nutty taste and can be used on salads and other light dishes. It has some great health benefits like lowering cholesterol, strengthening the immune system, increasing circulation and decreasing inflamation in the body.
Fiber is mainly concentrated in fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains. Did you know that most of the fiber in fruits is found in the peel! Foods that contain dietary fiber are good for the digestive system, preventing constipation, helping with weight control and also lowering the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Studies have also shown that fiber can lower cholesterol levels in the body. I choose to take most of my fiber in the morning( fruits and whole grain cereal with nuts and dried fruit ).

Plastic bottles contain high levels of the chemical bisphenol-A (BPA), this chemical leaks into the water that we are drinking and silently causes many disruptions in the bodily function. BPA can be causing hormone imbalance (estrogen), heart disease, liver problems and diabetes. Whats worse is when they ran studies on drinking cold water from plastic versus warm water, they found that the levels of BPA were in fact much higher in the warm water! This rings alarm bells when you think about your plastic water bottle left in your car on a hot sumer day or even worse feeding your baby milk out of a plastic baby bottle. Plastic water bottles are not only harmful to our bodies but to the environment so why not trade them in for BPA free reusable bottles made from stainless steel. They come in all colorful designs and patterns. Check them out!
Beetroot is one of my favorite ingredients when it comes to juicing. Its woody flavor goes along perfectly when added to citrus and other fruits. It has many benefits like lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, it is also a powerful antioxidant and a great source of folic acid. Beetroot contains potassium, magnesium, iron, vitamin A, B6, and C. Best of all it is fat free and full of soluble fibre, low on the glycemic index thus making it great for stabilizing blood sugar.
Here are three great juices to suit your palette:
– Beetroot, orange, carrot and ginger.
– Beetroot,apple and cucumber.
– Beetroot, pineapple and pears
The best way to drink your juice is to down it early in the morning, its a great way to kick start the day and add along some Spirulina for an extra protein boost. Did you know that Spirulina is one of the most nutritious and complete foods on earth!
